Ultimate Baseball Online is a first free to play baseball game, which exposes avid baseball fans to the internet version of the game. It is a massively multiplayer based online sports game. Netamin Communication Corporation developed and issued this online form of baseball, along with the help of Darrell Evans, a world series champion and a former player of Major League Baseball. A new edition of online baseball was issued on 27th April, 2007 which replaced the 2006 online baseball game named Ultimate Baseball Online.
Development of Online Baseball Games:
In its initial stages, Netamin released two mini-games which acted as teasers to the full featured Ultimate Baseball Online. League games, pick-up play and practice mode were included in this version of online baseball. Plans to release the full game fell through, in 2004. During April 2005, ESPN and Netamin came together to form what is called as the ESPN spring training and the Ultimate Baseball Online. While, Ultimate Baseball Online was the online form of Baseball, the ESPN spring training helped the amateur online baseball players to practice offline, as a part of the main game. Players participating in ESPN spring training could find their scores and statistics on the ESPN Leaderboard.
Online Baseball 2006 v/s Online Baseball 2007:
Players experienced complete automated game play in the 2006 version of Ultimate Baseball Online. It included record keeping of tournaments and Leaderboard statistics. It helped extend the information of the player, on the far side of the former editions game statistics and the leader board statistics. These were then posted over the internet, for the players to track their own record and compare them to other online players, in the course of the tournament. Later, Netamin announced their pay to play plans, for players wanting to subscribe the game on a monthly basis. Shortly after the announcement, Netamin withdrew their plans and embarked on a free to play game advertising instead. The 2007 version of Ultimate Baseball Online was released to the public on 1st of March, 2007. It featured power ranking systems and new mini-games. In addition, a concept of Free Agent tournament was also introduced, whereby the tournament was allowed to play outside the team structure. This extended the opportunity for gamers to come into contact with other online baseball players.
